외국인모델한국 촬영, 현장 언어는 어떻게 맞춰질까?

한국에서 외국인 모델과 촬영할 때 브랜드가 가장 걱정하는 부분 중 하나가 현장 소통입니다. 포토그래퍼는 한국어로 빠르게 지시하고, 해외 클라이언트가 영어로 컨펌하는 경우도 많거든요.

저는 캐나다 출신 혼혈 모델이라 영어가 편하고, 현장에서 필요한 한국어 디렉팅도 기본으로 따라갑니다. “조금 더 가까이”, “고개만”, “제품 보이게” 같은 짧은 지시에는 바로 반응하는 편이에요. 긴 컨셉 설명은 영어나 간단한 한국어+제스처로 확인하고, 애매하면 한 번 더 물어봅니다. 그 한 번의 확인이 리테이크를 줄입니다.

프리랜서 모델이라 통역 매니저가 항상 붙지는 않습니다. 대신 촬영 전에 무드보드와 키 포즈를 공유해 주시면, 언어가 달라도 방향이 같아집니다. 뷰티는 표정 키워드, 룩북은 동선, 제품은 손이 어디에 있어야 하는지가 특히 중요해요.

외국인 모델 캐스팅을 고민 중이시라면, “한국어 가능 여부”를 yes/no로만 보지 마시고 실제 현장에서 어떻게 확인하는지도 물어보세요. 저처럼 한·영을 섞어 작업하는 프리랜서도 있습니다.

One of the biggest worries when shooting with a foreign model in Korea is on-set communication. Photographers often direct quickly in Korean, while overseas clients may approve in English.

I’m a mixed Korean-Canadian model, so English is natural for me, and I also follow basic Korean directing on set — short cues like “a little closer,” “just the head,” or “show the product.” For longer concept notes I’ll confirm in English or simple Korean plus gesture, and I’ll ask once if anything is unclear. That one check usually prevents retakes.

As a freelance model I don’t always have an interpreter-manager with me. Sharing a moodboard and key poses before the shoot aligns everyone even when languages mix. Beauty needs expression keywords, lookbooks need movement, and product work needs clear hand placement.

If you’re casting a foreign model, don’t treat “speaks Korean?” as only a yes/no box — ask how they confirm direction on set. Some of us freelancers work comfortably in a Korean–English mix.
